Intro to Jiu Jitsu
In this class you will learn the prerequisite knoweldge & skills of learning jiu jitsu at Higher.
We will address the history of the art, the culture in our school, how to stay safe while training, and the essential movements you’ll need to get right into the learning fun.
This is the perfect place to start for beginners!
Fundamentals
Our Fundamentals program caters for beginners to advanced practitioners from the age of 15 and up.
In Fundamentals we hone in on all the details that make the basics work with the skilled & unskilled opponent in mind.
We will practice movement mechanics, techniques from our White to Blue belt curriculum, as well as optional live drills, whilst always prioritising learning.
Advanced
This is where we refine our skills and timing, troubleshoot problems, and play with combinations and broader concepts.
This class includes positional training as well as open rolling.
White belts with 2 stripes or around 6 months of experience and above are welcome to attend these classes.
Jiu Jitsu – All Levels
These classes are suitable for all practitioners, from beginners to advanced students. They include a combination of techniques from our White to Blue as well as Blue to Purple syllabus.
Our coaches and training partners will tailor the drills and techniques, and training to suit each student’s needs. As a beginner you are welcome to attend.
Good Morning Jiu Jitsu
Our morning classes are catered to all levels and are the perfect start to the day!
We start with gentle movement, and progress into a study of technique, and work on them with live drills and positional training.
These classes are catered to all levels – beginners to advanced!
Competition Preparation
This class is focused on live practice of the techniques and combinations we have been working on in other classes.
This class includes sparring and is there to prepare you for upcoming competitions. It includes physical conditioning, competition strategy, and tactics.
Students who are experienced in live training and are looking to compete are more than welcome in this class.
Skill Development – No Gi
This class involves a variation of games and drills designed to further your understanding of technique and timing of application. It involves less coaching of individual moves and more opportunity to feel moves in real time.
Students with a basic understanding of jiu jitsu and specific training are welcome to attend this class.
Open Mat / Rolling / Sparring
A time to share the mats with friends and jump in on grapples, work on specific techniques, move & stretch, chat, or whatever else you’d like to do.
Youth Jiu Jitsu
Our Kids Martial Arts classes are designed to impart valuable life skills to our students from self-defense to stranger danger, to confidence and goal-setting.
The primary focus of our Kids Martial Arts class is to develop fundamental techniques, and create a solid foundation to build upon in the older years.
Classes offered:
- Jits4Kids (4 – 7 years )
- Juniors (8 – 15 years)
Private Coaching
A private session will involve an exploration of how your own habits contribute to your jiu jitsu skills.
Through the gift of feel, you will see how your patterns influence your game, thereby allowing you to improve on them.
These are a perfect way to excel your learning curve.
