10 Ways to Annoy Your Jiu Jitsu Buddies
We all know you’re a great person, and don’t intend to annoy your friends. But there are some things that are taboo on the jits mats.
Read the following list, check where you’re at and avoid being that annoying training partner.
1. Don’t clip your nails.
People love getting sliced by human body parts so feel free to throw those razors around.
2. Come with a stenchy gi and bad body odours.
Others love the stench of smelly, old sweat in their face and are happy to accomodate for your own laziness.
3. Come to class with flu germs and spread them for all to enjoy.
Because who doesn’t enjoy being sick and snotty? Intentional farting, and smelly feet also fit in this category. My friend, please.
4. Being forceful and reckless. And don’t pinch my skin!!
We’re all on our own unique path of learning, but taking risks with other people’s bodies is a no go zone. PS. Slow it down, and grab gi, not skin!
5. Think you know it all and don’t need to learn anymore.
The cup isn’t empty, it’s full. You’re not thirsty, but full with your preconceived ideas of what you think is right. But if you’re not in class to learn, why you there at all?
6. Work on something completely different to the rest of the group.
Your learning curve is different to everyone else’s. So while all the laypeople do what’s on the class agenda, you have free reign to do as you please, without any mention to your Coach.
7. Not helping others where you can.
Tony Montana says ‘the world is yours’. So screw everyone else right? When you see your partner making an obvious mistake, help them out.
8. Come to jiu jitsu for the workout alone.
You don’t need to learn how to defend yourself. All you come for is the rolling and sweating, and you can’t wait to burn those calories. So hurry up already and let’s get into it!
9. Talk unnecessarily during a roll. And celebrating a Tap.
Tease someone for not catching you, commentate on what they’re doing wrong, boastfully celebrate a submission. Fun and games are cool, and it’s always in good spirits, but just keep it quiet and train already.
10. Being sarcastic.
Because everyone wants to be treated like an idiot, on the mats and off.
